25-Sept-13 | Update : Good News for all learners. Now, there is no age restriction for taking admission in LLB course. The BCI has uplifted its upper age restriction for LLB courses. Earlier Bar Council Of Inida(BCI) has set norms for LLB courses. For doing 5 years LLB course after 12th standard, candidate must not exceed 20 years of age. A candidate seeking admission in 3 years LLB course after his/her graduation, must not exceed 30 years of age. However some age relaxation has been given to SC and ST candidates. OBC candidates are also taken with general category with no age relaxation.
Andhra Pradesh High Court [Hyderabad vs. the Bar Council of India and others (Writ Petition No 6691/2009)] has given stay on this BCI norms. Though, almost all states University/Colleges are following the BCI rule strictly. In UP, an IPS officer and activist Amitabh Thakur has challenged this upper age fixation into the Allahabad High Court, and Lucknow bench of justice is hearing the matter.
BCI, allows and consider for practices who earn degree from abroad after passing an qualifying exam in India and there is no upper age bar. It is totally a kind of demotion of Indian education at-least indirectly if not directly. Either it should keep the same upper age restriction to professionals coming with abroad degrees in India.
It would be not good to speculate more as the matter is already in honourable high court but this upper age restriction should be lifted till the verdict as admission season is going on.
